What a report covers

Every report works through the same fourteen criteria. Each one carries its own findings, the sources behind them, and a risk rating — rated on a common scale against peer manufacturers, so a result means something relative to the field rather than in isolation. Anything that could not be resolved from the available evidence is listed as an open gap, ordered by materiality.

  • IE technical review
  • Fleet track record
  • Customer references
  • Manufacturing, QA & QC
  • Commissioning
  • Operations & service
  • IP / escrow
  • Unique spare parts
  • Safety (toxicity, TRIR)
  • Decommissioning & recycling
  • Warranties
  • Historical defects
  • OEM financials
  • Import risk & domestic tax credits

Reports are built from publicly available data together with material the manufacturer provides, or permits NED to use, where that is available. They cite independent testing from Kiwa PVEL, drawing on Product Qualification Program results through 2026. Findings are sourced, each source is cited beside its finding, and a senior reviewer signs off on every report before it ships.

Fresh on the day you buy it

Reports are not pulled off a shelf. Each is either written when you order it, or checked for currency by a senior NED engineer and updated if the evidence has moved — so what arrives reflects the latest evidence available that day. That is why delivery takes three business days rather than being an instant download. Business days are Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm Pacific, excluding US bank holidays; orders placed outside those hours start the next business day. Miss that window and we refund you in full.

Want to see one before you buy? A redacted, anonymized sample report is available on the Documents page — give us your contact details and the download appears straight away.

Don’t see your module?

Get in touch and we will look into whether we can get enough data to write a report on it. As above, reports are built from publicly available data and from material the manufacturer provides or permits NED to use — so it comes down to what evidence exists for that particular product. Tell us the manufacturer and model and we will come back to you either way.

Need a report on equipment that isn’t here?

We write reports to order on equipment outside this catalog — inverters, trackers, BESS, fuel cells, transformers, mounting systems — and on the companies behind a project: EPCs and construction contractors, O&M providers, asset managers, and other service providers. Each report is built from whatever research is available: public sources, independent engineering work, and material from the vendor.

A Due Diligence Report assesses the technical and commercial risk in a vendor, product, or service provider — the risks financing and insurance review turn on, and what can be done to mitigate them. Results are ready within four business days. Includes a one-hour session with a NED expert, plus one more hour if needed.

Manufacturers, test labs, product evaluators and engineering firms are all welcome to submit bankability studies, technology reviews, factory inspection reports, and lab test results for the products we cover — where you have your customer’s consent to share the material, or are otherwise entitled to under another agreement. Everything submitted is independently reviewed before it informs a report.

The wider QA & QC and due diligence ecosystem

Solar is supported by an ecosystem of companies that perform quality assurance and quality control work, and the due diligence built on it — independent testing, factory inspection, and commercial underwriting. These reports draw on and cite that work. Here are some of the organizations doing it, in case you need something beyond what’s in a given report.
